As in most of Velco's work, social commentary is weaved in the painting through symbolism. The major players in this piece are the wind surfer, the ocean, the ocean oil drilling platform and the sun. The oil platform is in the darkened horizon with dark blackened waters (possibility an oil spill). The wind surfer is moving in the direction of the sun, toward the left (away from the concepts of oil and the “right”) that dominates the sky with its refractions of color and energy. The re-cycled plastic bags are a product of the oil industry and it is mixed up in the turbulent surf – polluting yet unfortunate reality of our lack of respect for the ocean. Its printed green text is visible amongst the tousling waters reminding us of our imprint and effect on the natural world. The Hematite crystal tumbled stone is placed at the junction of the transference of energy, connecting the sail to the board. It is enabling the movement, the action, the moment.
Metaphysical Properties of Hematite:
Said to protect a solider going into battle, Hematite enhances personal magnetism. It can heal anger and hurt felt by those who were warriors in previous lives, supporting those who face karmic battle in the present life. Harmonizing mind, body and spirit, this effective grounding stone removes excess energy and separates your emotions from those of other people. Strongly yang, it balances meridians, redresses yin imbalances, dissolves negativity and protects the aura. Enhances survival ability, this is an excellent stone for accessing the subconscious mind, drawing attention to unfulfilled desires that drive your life. Assisting in coming to terms with mistakes as learning experiences, it helps face the shadow side of your personality.*
Velco hopes that the stone and the message of the painting will help us learn from our mistakes and move toward a sustainable future of abundant renewable energy sources and regain our respect for the ocean.

I like your works, they remind me of a blend of post-impressionism with a special touch of impressionism, mainly in the way you approach the sky. Quite good works, where one could easily find a bridge between contemporary classic and our days trends. I have taken a close look to your work, at least, all those post[ed] on your site. All of them seems to me to follow the same style, which is a compliment because to achieve one's own style is one of the hardest things [to accomplish] in art.
